Flipping Websites Show Today At 3:00pm

I'll be doing a show today, and I believe every Tuesday, reagarding flipping websites on BlogTalkRadio.

I define flipping websites as basically anything to do with buying, building and selling web sites. So if you want to ask a question, promote a product, offer advice on this subject, please call into the show and I'll put you on. For now I have the show scheduled for 15 minutes at 3:00pm pacific standard time ( west coast), however I am thinking of expanding it to 30 or 60 minutes. Just go here to listen to the show and call in:

Flipping Websites Show

At the link above you will see a number to call into the show. Here it is also:

(646) 716-8087

This is my third show and my goal is to get a bit better with each show. I intend to keep doing these on an almost daily basis and will cover all sorts of different parts of internet marketing. Flipping websites is something I am interested in so like I said, I probably will make it a regular part of my schedule. Today will be totally off the cuff so to speak. No notes. I'll just wing it and see how it goes. If I have to make notes for each show, it will definately just take too much of my time now.

**********************************************

On a separate note I wanted to show two more build a niche store sites I made recently:

Stained Glass This site has some great auctions for anyone interested in stained glass. One page I like on the site is stained glass supplies which is for the stained glass artists out there.

Vintage Glassware is a niche site that deals with vintage glassware auctions. You can find some great discount glassware from pre 1940s.

HostGator Review and Coupons: Why Hostgator? Or Yhostgator.com?

Hostgator is one of the top hosting company around. Many people love their services, but the question myust be asked "why Hostgator? So that is why I have this domain name here to help you see why:

YHostgator.com

Clever domain name don't you think? haha. Not really, but it was available and if you click on it and go to the left side bar you will see a section called "testimonials and reviews" where you will see awards, testimonials and reviews. Of course you may say "well, it's hostgators site. There are only going to be good reviews at their own site>" This is true, however I have seen many, many unbiased reviews from people over the years and I must say hostgator is one of the most well respected hosting companies going.

I myself have been using them for a while and have had zero problems. Zilch. I find them easy to use and the support is top notch. No down time at all for me so far and I haven't heard many say anything about downtime.

Here is something else that may be of use to you. Someone showed me three codes to use to get a discount for the first month. Here's how it works:

1. Go to Hostgator and signup.
2. Before paying you will see a section for discounts codes/couponds.
3. Enter one of these threee and you will get $9.94 off your first month!!

“jury”
“webhostingunleashed”
“iceishot”

It's that easy.

My Long Tail Web Site

I was just looking at stats from one of my sites, which I haven't looked at recently. It's a real good site, but with just a bit of traffic. However, the traffic is almost all from SEs and especially Google SE. Now, that isn't that unusual I know, but what is really nice about this site are the Search Keyphrases (Top 10) in the allstats. Here is what part of them look like:

2793 different keyphrases Percent

#1 3.7 %
#2 3 %
#3 1.8 %
#4 1.3 %
#5 1.2 %
#6 1 %
#7 0.8 %
#8 0.7 %
#9 0.6 %
#10 0.6 %
other 84.7 %

So what this shows me is that this site is very well liked by Google mostly. It has many search terms that get traffic to the site. In fact the top ten account for only about 15% of the SE traffic. The rest, over 2700 other phrases, gets a huge 85% of the SE traffic!

This is for one month by the way. Almost 2800 hundred search terms getting traffic to the site.

I was real happy to see this because it confirmed my thoughts. I felt this site was a special one although it hasn't shown the increase in traffic I was hoping for. But that will be coming soon.

More to come about this site in the coming months. If you are a member of flipwebsites you will get a closer look as I am going to post what we plan to do to update this site substantially.

Google Trends - Nice Tool

I Just got finished spending quite a bit of time on Google trends comparing some niches. I find it a usefull tool, but be careful because you can easiy spend way too much time at the site. It's been around for over a year, but for those who haven't heard about it or used it before I thought I would point it out here:

Google trends

The site can help you decide whether a niche is the one you want to really get into, whether certain keywords are what you want, when to use an ad campain as some niches are seasonal, and to find hot trends. Have fun.

Google slap on squidoo

I haven't really commented about the recent problems with squidoo. If you haven't heard, Google gave squidoo a good sized slap recently, meaning they stopped ranking many of the lenses as high as they were. One reason was because of some spam issues but I believe it probably is deeper than just a few dozen spamers who used some i-frames.

Some squidoo lovers say there isn't anything to worry about and that the site will bounce back. I am not so sure. I suppose if squidoo does get a handle on the spammers it will help, but I wonder if too much damage has already been done to squidoos reputation. Their Alexa ranking have plumented drastically. I feel the next two weeks will be a very important time to see whether squidoo can turn the momentum back around in their favor again.

I personally think they have a nice business model. people say the quality of the lenses overall will eventually hurt the site. I don't know. Look at the overall quality of youtube videos. Most are crap although many are excellent.

Sure, squidoo isn't wikipedia. They don't try to be. But I think there is a place for them. It gives just another opportunity for the average person to get seen and heard which is what has happened so much in the last couple of decades. Think about it: reality tv, blogs, youtube, myspace, etc... Squidoo is just another platform that keeps this trend going.

They definately have some major work ahead of them and although I just recently started making these lenses to see what I could do, I may stop working on them if squidoo continues to fall. I think many feel the same and have already stopped.

Squidoo should be just another tool in your IM toolbox anyways. We'll see if this tool will remain in the toolbox or if it gets taken out and replaced, because there is only so much room ( time ) in the toolbox.

By the way, here's the lens for the day. :-)

Motorola Razr Faceplates

Here's a squidoo lens I have that is doing pretty well. It's in the top 100:

Motorola Razr Faceplates

Plus here's two more build a niche store sites:

food - This one is for the food and wine section. I used another domain I have had sitting around doing nothing, eatmarket.com. I always liked that domain and it fits well with this niche store.

Girls clothing - This one is about girsl clothing and accessories. Another huge market.

Build a niche store: day two

Well, I have 4 more stores since I posted yesterday. I did have a few problems, but they turned out to be my fault, so I can still say the software is working we'll so far.

Here are the four new build a niche store :

Beer making supply

Girls gone wild shopping. This one is for girls clothing and accessories, but I am using the keyword girls gone wild just to get some initial traffic. Or try to. That keyword phrase has a high kei and is searched heavily. I've had this domain parked for a long time so I figured I would get some use out of it. It gets type in traffic now. Another reason I have the 'girls gone wild' keyword is because the adsense ads seem to be focusing on that type of ad, even before I decided using that keyword phrase. I'll probably change it soo though.

Family Video movies store . This is another domain I had parked and just thought I would use the bans script to see if I can make some money with it. No reviews on the site, although I am thinking of making a blog for the site also.

las vegas deal . This one is a domain I picked up recently. The keyword suprisingly doesn't get much competition and gets searched quite a bit.

That's it for now. I may make a few more tonight. I checked the two I made yesterday and they are starting to get some SE bots coming around, probably from posting them here at this blog. This blog does get noticed bythe SEs, which is nice. If I posted more often I am sure it would get noticed more, so that is what I am trying to do.

As an example of how quickly it it gets in the SEs rankings, I had yesterdays post about build a niche store on the top of the 4th page in half a day. Not anything write home about, but not bad either. At least they are paying attention.

It helped also that I blog and ping using ipings.com.

Build a Niche Store Review

OK, I heard a lot of good things about build a niche store in forums and on some blogs. From what I read it sounded like a good idea since I have been using the ebay affiliate program for over a year and like the wide variety of niches that it can instantly cover. So I bought the product and now here's a short Build a Niche Store Review .

First of all, what I like about BANS is that it is very well written and describes in detail how to do each step. I think in that regard it is excellent. There are many screenshots and the text is very clear and easy to understand. Plus they don't leave anything out. So, this part makes it user friendly for new online marketers.

The software itself seems to work very smoothly. So far I have made two sites and have not found any bugs. Here are the two sites I made:

Dog Training

Designer Handbags

As you can see, the sites are simple. I added some adsense a little short introduction. I'll add a bit more content later.

There aren't that many templates, but there is clear information on how to add your own templates. I hope they do add more though. Right now the logos don't really fit my niche, so I will have to find a my own logo. That's not a big probelem though.

I also would like a way to add more specific listings as I can do on squidoo where you can just add a keyword and live auctions for that keyword will show up. BANS does make it possible to change the keyword meta tags though.

Speaking of squidoo, what I have done so far with these two sites is link to them from squidoo lenses on the same subject. Here are the two lenses for my first two BANS sites:

squidoo Designer handbags

and

squidoo Dog Training

As you can see from the lenses I use the ebay modules quite a bit. Like I said the fact that you can pick all sorts of keywords that you want to target and instantly get live products for that specific keyword is a real nice feature. Plus, it's just so easy to use.

OK, back to BANS.

So, overall I like what I have seen so far with this software. I will have to wait a while to be able to say what the results are though, but in regards to first impressions I like it a lot.

Lets see what they do with it now.

So here is where you can get your build a niche store

and if you do buy from my link above, I will make your first niche store for you. I'll set it up, put your ads on it, and write a short intro. I'll even add your meta tags and other seo information for the homepage.

Update 7-22-07

Some new niche stores from me:

Inner Cat is a cat per supply store.

Home Solar Panels This one is a solar power and alternative energy store.

Solar Power Services another solar power store. just putting to use unesed domains.

So far I haven't any effort into promoting these sites, besides listing them here in my blog. I want to see what happens with minimal promotion because I hear that these sites can make money without much promotion. So we'll see. I may use a few more links to them, but not more than that. By listing them here so far a couple have been indexed by Google.

Squidoo not just for long tail.

I ignored squidoo for a few months, but now I'm sold. Sold not just just on squidoo, but also on the idea of riding on the coat tails of a site that Google and other SE's love. It's actually right in line with how I have thought about some sites, even before I ever heard of Squidoo.

However what Squidoo is doing now does standout from the crowd. They are breaking new ground in some ways, and they are important ways IMO.

While going after long tail keywords is very worthwhile with squidoo, I am certain you can get into high spots for heavily searched terms.

Currently I am the second page and rising fast for a lens whose url keyword is searched over 340,000 times a month according to my Niche Inspector tool, which doesn't include Google searches. That's after less than two hours work. Probably closer to one hour. Try that with your own new site.

The great thing about using a site like Squidoo is you don't really need to be an expert to make these lenses rank high. It really is just a matter of "just do it". Do the keyword research, write some, use the modules, add good tags, add some interactive tools such as a well thought out poll, do a few simple links using your chosen keyword for the anchor text and voila! you have a high ranked lens.

Probably Google will do a serious update of blogger.com and make it more like squidoo. I just think that squidoo is so simple for people. A few clicks here and there, a little content, and you have a chance at making some money. No offense to google though as this blog has been on blogger.com for years. I just see a change.

OK, now speaking of squidoo, here;s the squidoo lens of the day:

Weight Loss

Ok, we all know that weight loss is not only a huge industry here in the US and around the world. It also is a huge niche in the internet marketing world. So for the squidoo lens of the day, here is Gordon Lee's lens:

Weight Loss

Gordon just got started on it but it is really looking good so far.

------------------------------------------------

Sometimes the timing of things can be just right. We didn't do anything with blogsrater for so long after getting it going, but the idea was good. Looking back, I wish we had worked on it continually from the start. However, since we didn't we now have an opportunity to take it somewhere that would have been harder to do if we had kept working on it.

The good thing is we have a fairly clean/simple site and now that we are finally going to work on it, we won't have to change a lot as we would have had to do if we had kept improving it.

Anyways, since we are close to the time of the update, i will say here that we will base a lot of the update on a new site that has grown a lot in the last year. A LOT. Some of what we will do to blogsrater has to do with what we did to octora's advertising tag-ads. That was a good idea that was well executed. i kind of wish we kept octora now as the new owners haven't done anything with it. I really expected them to go all out with it. The site is losing any momentum it may have had.

Blogsrater is going to be fun and I do believe many marketers will benefit from what we are going to do. Let me just say, that Google loves the sites, even though it is small. The important thing is that I know why. We are going to take advantage of this so Google and other search engines continue to love the site and then love the marketers that use blogsrater also.

Some interesting things going on with us, plus the squidoo lens of the day here.

Well, I am totally addicted to squidoo now. So to start off here is a lens, not mine. that I find interesting:

Rome

It's a lens about Rome Italy which is a city I want to visit soon. I especially like the lens because although it's new, they are already getting into art and architecture. Michelangelo books are featured on it and he is one of my top three artists of all time. Maybe top two along with Picasso.

Anyways, one thing that is going on now with us is the finishing up of ISellPal which is going to be a big success I believe. The site is a great tool for anyone who sells products online. It's ease of use, functionality and well designed script will make it a favorite of IMers I am sure.

ISellPal will launch soon then we will be working finally on the long awaited major 2.0 update to blogsrater. Perhaps it is a good thing it has been delayed because I have a clearer view of what to do with it now. I think it has a real chance to finish out this year real strong and start next year as areal site to watch.

OK, another thing I am doing now is starting a squidoo membership. To join the monthly service you just have to be a member of buy-alert.com and you can become a member by simply buying flipwebsites.com
Then you can send me an email at nalehpmit (at) yahoo (dot) com and let me know you joined the membership. I'll send you an email with instructions.

Terrific Ebooks on squidoo by Dr. Mani

Dr. Mani is one of my favorite internet marketers. There are several reasons why including the fact that he saves kids lives all the time. :-) He is an interesting mix of heart surgeon and internet marketer. And a nice guy to boot. He also isn't afraid to speak his mind when he disagrees with other marketers.

Well he has been involved with squidoo marketing for several months and has written two quality ebooks on the subject. Here is the latest one:

Advanced Squidoo Profit Secrets

He is currently giving his first ebook on the subject away as a bonus to those who purchase now. I also believe that Dr. Mani donates quite a bit of each sale to his heart kids charity for kids in India who need heart surgury. So you learn how to make money and also help a kid live. :-)
