A few examples of city directories

I have been interested in getting into offline/online marketing of local directories for a couple years really. Last year I had this site made for me:

San Jose Directory

I never really got around to promoting it though. There's different reasons but one of them was the website didn't seem to have the advertising setup I was looking for.

So, anyways, recently local directories have become pretty popular for internet marketers. So after reading how well others are doing with theirs I decided this year I will put in the effort.

Here's whhat I have going so far. I have partnered with someone and this site is the result:

San Jose Downtown directory

This is a big improvement over the other San Jose site I have and is set up especially well for advertising and paid memberships.

OK, here is another site that is a pre-made city directory that I am also testing out. Very quick to get started and I'm ready to go talk to some business owners.

Santa Clara Directory

So I got three city directories and now it's time to make some money with them. I'll keep you posted throughout the year on how it's going.

Blogsrater (.) Com for sale. Great potential for growth

Just put my baby up for sale. I didn't want to do it but I think it's for the better. Blogsrater has super potential. You hear that a lot, and sometimes from me, but it's the truth with this site. It's primed and ready for someone to take it to new hights.

If you saw what happened to BlogCatalog in the last year, you should see the potential in this site also. If you don't know what happened to Blogcatalog, in a nut shell it sold for $40,000 at sitepoint right about the same time that mybloglog sold for $10 million to yahoo. Well, I watched the two sites ever since and the last time I checked Blogcatalog passed up mybloglog> It had a great year last year.

Take a look at the auction below and look at the links, the number of keyword phrases, the number of different bots and spiders that spider the site. The SEs love the site even though I have neglected it terribly for a year. Not because I wanted to but because of bad circumstances.

Here's the auction. If you know anyone who may be interested send them this way. :-)

Top City Domains Site

Here's my new site that I am using to sell my list of city and neighborhood domain names.

Top City Domains

I just started adding the domains. I should have over a hundred soon. My goal is to build this site up to a point where it has thousands of city domains.

These domains are great for a local city portal, a directory, a craigs list type site, a blog, a community message board, a social networking site etc...

When looking for a city domain keep in mind that a city domain is not just an expense. It's an asset. Make sure you get the best possible city domains and your domain asset will likely increase in value.

Some people buy a city domain such as meetSanJose.com or heresSanJose.com. Those are ok, but as far as increasing in value based on domain name alone, they probably aren't the best choice. Keeping the domain to the city, neighborhood and state is the best choice. If it is going to be a city domain, the first choice would be city.com. If you can't get a dot com, try to get a .net next, then either a dot info or a dot org. Of course if you live in another country, you may want to get that country's extension.

Dashes can be ok also if all other domains are taken. Plus, if all the names are taken for your city, then you can look for the this citystate.com, or citystateabreviation.com ( example: sanjoseCA.com ) etc...

For neighborhoods, many times the best domain should include the city name after the neighboorhood name as the neighborhood names may be the same in other cities. So, for example, you want to get a domain for "chinatown" in New York, then a good choice would be ChinatownNewYork.com if you can ge that one.

These city names can be worth thousands and in some cases even milions, so it does matter. Maybe i will post some examples of city domain sales here to give an idea of what these domains go for.

Internet Marketing Expert San Jose: Tim Phelan

Branding is important to all businesses and especially to internet marketing. I learned something from fellow internet marketer Willie Crawford a few weeks ago and thought I would do a little of what he suggested. If you want to be considered an expert at something, you need to have compelling evidence and/or be very pursusive.

I have plans to get more into the the offline marketing of internet marketing soon. This isn't any new idea in itself as I ahve thought about this for years. Almost two years ago I started my SJCalifornia.com directory and it is on the first page for a Google search of "San Jose Directory" without quotes. That's nice, but I haven't contacted local business owners yet about advertisng and getting involved with the site.

In a way, I am glad I didn't because I feel I have a better plan now. What I'm going to do is focus on smaller neighborhoods.

I'll explain more about this strategy as it unfolds.

That's it for now.

LLLL.com sales increasing fast!

Ok, this is pretty amazing. I haven't seen a situation like this in domaining since I started looking into this way of making money online about 2 years ago.

What is happening right now is a viral type growth that has accounted for the minimum market value of the lowest level LLLL.coms increasing by about 600%. That's right. The minimum wholesale cost for the worst possible LLLL.com has gone from an $8 low to a current value of approximately $45 to $50!

Here's the interesting part of this though: the increase in value of the LLLL.coms is having a significant effect on other domain values such as LLLL.nets, NNNNN.coms, LLLL.infos, and even LLL.coms.

Is this the beginning of a new domaining market? Who decides whether it is or not? Obviously only the people who who buy and sell decide. Right now, it looks as though a major shift is going on that wasn't happening just a few months ago.

One reason there is an increase in value in these limited quantity domains may be the bad economy and the stock market uncertainty. But more than that, I think people are seeing the long lasting value of investing in domains.

It's a great time to be in domaining. Although I wish I had become involved in buying and selling domains 10 years ago, or even 4 years ago, I am glad to be involved now when something new is going on.

OK. So, here is my new blog where you can see new auctions by myself and also current info regarding LLLL.coms:

LLLL Domains

Limited quantity domains, remember that phrase.
